Five years ago today....part VII

We slept in a little bit today.....we went down to the Three Chimneys Inn's colonial-style dining room and had breakfast: French toast with berry compote, bacon, mixed fruit, cranberry juice, and coffee. It was a very, very rainy day....it didn't let up till sunset.
We checked out of the inn and got into the car to venture around the area. We ended up finding a local pizza parlor in Lebanon, NH where we had lunch. We then drove over to the next state, Vermont. Immediately the trees were a richer green, and the landscape became more rolling and sloping. It was gorgeous. We attempted to capture the beauty that we saw in photos, but it didn't do the landscape justice at all.
We checked into Willard Street Inn in Burlington, VT. The inn was enormous; a late 1800s house with a large foyer and even larger stairwell. Everything was in a Victorian style. The entire front of the inn was covered with a rich blanket of ivy.
We got up to our third story room, the Suite Larkin. It was on the corner; we had a bedroom with an adjoining parlor and bath. It was the least expensive room in the inn, but to us, it was the most comfortable and private. We had a turret window where we could look out and see Lake Champlain right there (the view looked much like this).
We went into town, a bustling little area that we immediately fell in love with. We ate supper at a little sandwich joint called the Red Onion Deli. We went into an underground shopping mall, which looked like something that time had forgotten. We bought a map of Lake Champlain in a little map store, one of our treasured momentos of our visit. We then went to a local video rental store and rented "Shakespeare in Love." We curled up in our parlor and watched it together.
